Call For Papers: First International Compliance Days

1.- PRESENTATION

Compliance is one of the most used terms in the economic and financial press in the last years. However, this expression is used in different areas and to refer to a diversity of subjects, without total consensus and clarity on what the benefits and costs that the organization assumes by not implementing the procedures that the companies should take in that area.

According to the study carried out by the Centre for Regulatory Law and Business (CDRE) of the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) «Compliance in Chilean companies»(1) , currently the Compliance function at the interior of the company has only a medium relevance in Chile. It is necessary to strengthen this area, following international trends, with the aim that it is not reduced to managing formal controls, but allows modelling a useful figure both in the operation, taking of decisions and administration of the company, as in the prevention of risks in the organization.

In order to continue being a contribution to the company in the prevention, detection and management of compliance risks, contributing to the promotion and development of a culture of better practices in matters of corporate governance, risk management, ethics and legal compliance to throughout the business organization, is that the CDRE has organized these First International Compliance Days, convening academics, researchers, teachers, students, and professionals in the area to present their research and share their work, in order to reflect on the subjects indicated and participate in a debate open to the business and academic community.

The topics of the presentations are free, related to the world of compliance. These can have a professional vision or an academic vision, as an example we propose the following topics:

• Compliance Programs, Risk Matrices and Certification.
• Compliance in relation a different legal subjects (criminal, free competition, Human Rights, Consumption, Cybersecurity, Environment, Tax, Labour).
• Compliance Officer (Obligations, responsibility, etc.)
• Whistle-blowers and complaint channels.
• Codes of good conduct and Soft Law.
• Torts and Compliance.
• Ethics in business.
• Reputational Risks.
• Institutional Control and Compliance.
• Behavioral Compliance.

2.- PROPOSALS

Those who are interested in participating as speakers, should send a proposal to mariajosecontreras@udd.cl until TUESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2021. The subject must indicate:

«Proposal for a presentation on the 2021 UDD compliance days (name and surname of the author)».

The proposal must contain:

• The title of the presentation.
• The summary of the presentation, with max. 1,000 words.
• Information on the author: name, academic degree, academic affiliation, address of email, mobile phone number and list of relevant publications.
  The academic committee will select the most pertinent proposals according to the following criteria:
• Originality and creativity of the proposal and potential to generate discussions.
• Papers not yet published will have preference.
• Only one proposal per person will be accepted.
  The Academic Committee will report the results on Thursday, September 30. The committee reserves the right to reject proposals.

3.- PRESENTATIONS

Once notified that your proposal has been accepted, you will be assigned a space in one of the exhibition panels.
Presentations must be made in Spanish or English. Each presentation should last maximum 15 minutes.
After the development of the Conference, the speakers must send an article based on the presentation, including eventual discussions and comments arising in the presentation, said article must meet the following formal requirements in its presentations:

• Length: minimum 8 pages and maximum 20.
• Typography: Times New Roman 12.
• Line spacing: intermediate.
• Normal margins.
  The presentations may be published in a book either in digital or printed version.

4.- ASSISTANTS

The days are open to the community. Attendees are kindly requested to register at: cdre@udd.cl, indicating in the subject of the email: «First Compliance Conference Assistance».
The assistants must indicate basic information: full name, email, telephone, university and if you are a student, teacher, professional, etc.

The participation of speakers and attendees will be free.
