Thatcher Y Merkel: mujeres clave en el proceso de integración Europea
Resumen
En este artículo identificaremos el papel representado por dos
mujeres en el proceso de construcción europea que dio origen a la Unión Europea (UE). Con visiones distintas sobre lo que debía ser la integración en Europa, Margaret Thatcher y Angela Merkel dejaron su huella en el mayor proceso de integración que se conoce. En contextos diferentes, enfrentadas a un mundo reservado casi exclusivamente a hombres, impusieron sus ideas y quedaron en la historia. ¿Qué tan distintas fueron sus visiones y aportes? ¿En qué contexto representaron un papel central marcando tanto a las instituciones europeas como al devenir de la propia integración?
Abstract
In this article we identify the role played by two women in the European construction process that gave rise to the European Union (EU). With different visions of what integration in Europe can be, Margaret Thatcher and Angela Merkel will leave their mark on the greatest integration process known. In different contexts, in a world reserved almost exclusively for men, they imposed their ideas and remained in history. How different were their visions and contributions? In what context did they play a central role in both European institutions and in the course of integration itself?
