Este trabajo estudia los fundamentos históricos de la formación del pensamiento político chileno entre los siglos xvii y xviii. Se contraponen los ideales políticos del barroco indiano y su concepción de la monarquía
tradicional y del absolutismo borbónico. Especial atención se presta a la forma en que pudo aplicarse el pensamiento absolutista en Chile, teniendo presente la existencia de una cultura político-jurídica muy diversa, presente en los habitantes del reino, y que contribuyó a que los españoles chilenos cooptaran las reformas borbónicas ocupando progresivamente casi todas las esferas de poder.

The article studies the historical basis of the formation of Chilean political thought between the 17th and 18th centuries. The political ideals of the Indian baroque and their conception of the traditional monarchy and Bourbon absolutism are compared. Special attention is given to the way that absolutist thought could be applied in Chile, bearing in mind the existence of a very diverse legal political culture, present in the inhabitants of the kingdom, which contributed to the Chilean Spaniards co-opting the Bourbon reforms progressively, occupying most of the spheres of power.
