La finalidad del artículo es reflexionar sobre la relación entre ciencia y tecnología, por una parte, y ecología y ambiente, por la otra, y que esta reflexión pueda servir de insumo al momento de diseñar políticas públicas y legislación ambiental. El primer capítulo es una introducción al tema. El segundo capítulo aborda aproximaciones teóricas al sentido de la ciencia y la tecnología. El tercer capítulo explica la promesa tecno-científica y el cuarto señala aprehensiones frente a ella. El quinto capítulo levanta algunas ideas alrededor de la geoingeniería. El texto concluye con una sección de conclusiones y bibliografía. La reflexión de síntesis es que la ciencia y tecnología han sido, y son, pilares básicos y esenciales del bienestar y avance del ser humano y requieren de políticas públicas y legislación que prevengan o minimicen sus aspectos no deseados.

The purpose of the article is to reflect on the relationship between science and technology on the one hand, and ecology and the environment on the other, with the hope that this reflection can serve as input when designing public policies and environmental legislation. The first chapter is an introduction to the topic. The second chapter addresses theoretical approaches to the meaning of science and technology. The third chapter explains the techno-scientific promise, and the fourth points out concerns regarding it. The fifth chapter raises some ideas around geoengineering. The text concludes with a section of conclusions and bibliography. The synthesis reflection is that science and technology have been and continue to be fundamental and essential pillars of human well-being and progress, and they require public policies and legislation that prevent or minimize their undesirable aspects.
